I was given the opportunity to speak with a member of the highly controversial followers of the Westboro Baptist Church, Shirley Phelps-Roper. Roper has extremely controversial methods for preaching the Westboro Baptist Church's interpretation of the Word of God. She and her family have been featured of Fox News, The BBC, XM Satellite Radio, and countless other outlets.
I wanted this interview to be one where Mrs. Roper can explain her beliefs in an environment of listening and not judging her beliefs. If you want to hear debates and arguing you can listen or watch any other interview. This was an opportunity for her to explain her beliefs, and be heard.
I disagree with the methods that she and others in her church try to spread their beliefs. I, however, believe in many things that she does. While my interpretation of the teachings of God differ in many regards to hers, I understand where she is coming from.
Let me make it clear now, I do NOT agree in these demonstrations at funerals. I also support our troops that follow teachings of God. I do believe that many things in our country are against the teachings of God, but I also believe in the separation of church and state.
God gives each of us free will. I believe that terrorists are not of God. I think that they are acting out misguided and false beliefs.
I truly believe that God loves us all, and that we are all his children. He wants what is best for us, and these methods of Shirley and the Westboro Baptist Church are not in the best interest of God's will.
So, please take this interview and listen to what she is saying. Then, allow your beliefs to guide you. I am not a supporter of what she is doing, but I wanted to give this Person With a Plan a chance to be heard.
