The latest star of YouTube is Nicholas White, a guy who got stuck in an elevator for 41 hours back in 1999. To accompany a recent article about Mr. White, The New Yorker magazine posted a time-lapse video on YouTube of his 41-hour ordeal from the elevator’s surveillance camera. The clip has almost 1 million views after just one week and landed Mr. White an appearance on Good Morning America. To watch the video, go to YouTube.com/NewYorkerDotCom.

Next… Film director, Zack Snyder (‘Dawn of the Dead’ and ‘300’), who is currently directing the feature film “Watchmen”, has launched the “Veidt Enterprises Advertising Contest” on YouTube. To enter, shoot an original TV commercial that advertises “Veidt Enterprises” products and upload it by June 2nd. If you win, your commercial could end up in the film “Watchmen”. The National Restaurant Association has launched the "Hot Chef" Challenge on YouTube. To enter create a video of you giving your best cooking demonstration and upload it to YouTube by May 7th. YouTube users will vote for the top three videos, and the winner will then be selected by a panel of judges. The winner will have the opportunity to give a live demonstration of his or her cooking creations at the National Restaurant Association Show in Chicago on May 17th. In a blog entry posted this week YouTube announced changes to their Policy Enforcement rules. Three major changes were outlined: Firstly: user violations of the Community Guidelines will now expire after six months (with the exception of copyright violations, which don’t expire).

Second: Instead of sending video removal notices to users only via email (where they can sometimes get caught by spam filters) the new system displays a notice on YouTube the next time a user accesses the site as well.

And third: With the goal of correcting abusive behavior in a less harsh or permanent manner than suspending users, YouTube will temporarily mute those who have two Community Guidelines warnings in a six-month period, so they can still use the site and watch videos, but can't post new content.
