In 2002 the American Council of the Blind filed a lawsuit against the Department of the Treasury alleging that the Department of Treasury violates the Rehabilitation Act by not designing and issueing paper currency that is readily distinguishable to blind and visually impaired people.
Last November, U.S. District Judge James Robertson ruled in favor of the American Council of the Blind declaring that the Treasury work to make paper currency accessible to the blind.
