Inworld car aficionados have mourned the loss of Pontiac’s much-loved Motorati Island at the end of 2007. But cars and Second Life belong together, and there’s a new carmaker in town. Italian manufacturer Lancia is launching a new car this year: The Delta. And leave it to the Italians to bring out the new car in Second Life before making it available in the real world later this winter. ‘Lancia Village’ island in Second Life in now open. The new island has a virtual showroom, a cafe, and even a multiplex cinema. That and a big glass bubble to hold parties inside.

One of the more exotic premieres at this year’s Sundance Film Festival is something called “Invisible Threads.” Great title, but it’s not a movie. Invisible Threads is a virtual sweatshop that lets you custom order blue jeans in Second Life, that are then made for you in the real world.
