English is a rich and wonderful language - but sometimes it's just not good enough. Mirror.co.uk brings you the weird and wonderful foreign phrases where English just doesn't capture what what you want to say. Other languages do have have such words and phrases. 

 

Here is a couple of examples from the multitude listed at the site.

 

• You could use the Danish word Kaelling for when a woman stands on her doorstep yelling obscenities at her kids.

• Or, you can use the word German Spesenritter to describe a person who shows off by paying the bill on the firm's money. He is literally "an expense knight".


• And then there is the the Turkish phrase, Bayram Degil (SEYRAN DEGIL ENISTE BENI NIYE OPTU?), which literally translates to: "it's not festival time, it's not a pleasure trip, so why did my brother-in-law kiss me"? 
  
  

Hmmm. I wish I had this phrase a month ago when my beautiful, exotic, female co-worker said this exact phrase to me...or at least the "why did my brother-in-law kiss me?" part.
